SURÝNEK JAKUB, VRTKOVÁ IRENA, KNOLL ALEŠ. 2016. Mycoplasma bovis Was not Detected in Milk from Dairy Cattle in the Czech Republic. Acta Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 64(1): 165–168. The aim of this study was to screen selected Czech dairy cattle farms for presence of Mycoplasma bovis. Between 2012 and 2014, 160 individual samples of cow milk, 60 colostrum samples, and 105 bulktank milk samples collected on 21 dairy farms were analyzed in our laboratory. DNA was extracted from samples and tested by quantitative PCR assay for M. bovis. All analyzed samples were negative. Results support long-term trend of very low prevalence of M. bovis in the Czech Republic.

A space–time analysis of Mycoplasma bovis: bulk tank milk antibody screening results from all Danish dairy herds in 2013–2014

BACKGROUND Mycoplasma bovis is an important pathogen causing severe disease outbreaks in cattle farms. Since 2011, there has been an apparent increase in M. bovis outbreaks among Danish dairy cattle herds. The dairy cattle industry performed cross-sectional antibody screening for M. bovis on four occasions, using the indirect BIO K 302 M. bovis enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (Bio-X, ...

Between-herd prevalence of Mycoplasma bovis in bulk milk in Flanders, Belgium.

Mycoplasma bovis (M. bovis) is a highly infectious pathogen of cattle causing pneumonia, polyarthritis, otitis, and less frequently, subcutaneous abscesses, abortions and meningitis. Ineffective drugs treatments, culling of infected cows and loss of milk production can lead to significant economic loss on dairy farms. The early detection of cows excreting M. bovis bacteria to prevent mastitis o...

A simplified PCR assay for fast and easy mycoplasma mastitis screening in dairy cattle

A simplified polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was developed for fast and easy screening of mycoplasma mastitis in dairy cattle. Species of major mycoplasma strains [Mycoplasma (M.) bovis, M. arginini, M. bovigenitalium, M. californicum, M. bovirhinis, M. alkalescens and M. canadense] in cultured milk samples were detected by this simplified PCR-based method as well as a standard PCR techni...

Molecular epidemiology of bovine tuberculosis in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the period 1965–2001 studied by spoligotyping

Spoligotyping was used to examine IS6110-positive DNA of 26 Mycobacterium bovis, M. bovis BCG and M. bovis subsp. caprae non-viable isolates stored up to 10 years. All of these isolates were previously identified by biochemical tests and all 17/17 tested isolates were earlier found virulent for guinea pigs. In total seven spoligotypes, designated S1–S7, were detected and compared with the spoli...

Mycoplasma bovis infections in Swiss dairy cattle: a clinical investigation

Mycoplasma bovis causes mastitis in dairy cows and is associated with pneumonia and polyarthritis in cattle. The present investigation included a retrospective case-control study to identify potential herd-level risk factors for M. bovis associated disease, and a prospective cohort study to evaluate the course of clinical disease in M. bovis infected dairy cattle herds in Switzerland. Eighteen ...
